(Been gone too long with my posts, I know. Apologies AND not sure how often I'll be back, so...)
7 Days to Change Your Mind - 28 Days to Change Your Life.
Quite the offer/come on. Take me up on it. It's fun & easy & really will do what it promises. Here goes.
The practice & process is one I call "Listing." Simply, you're going to make a list, once a day, every day, first for seven days. When you get through that and learn that it's easy to do and valuable, too, you'll push on for 21 more days 28 total. One phase of the moon. A natural cycle of life on Earth. And just the right amount of time/days to form a habit.
The purpose of this exercise is to accomplish a number of important bits:
A. To have you focus on what's working in your life (and work).
B. Thereby building your pure positive creative energy for more & better.
C. Creating the habit of "seeing" & acknowledging your successes.
D. Identifying your Values and keeping them in front of you.
and...
E. All of the above, which will result in a more satisfying, fulfilling & fun existence.
Neat huh? Here's the deal & daily drill.
Sit down (okay, stand if you want to) with a sheet of paper and something to write with. Yes, unless you are disabled and can't, paper and pen/pencil. Gotta' do this by hand (brings all the bodies together: physical, mental, emotional & spiritual).
On the top of the page write "What's right... What's working..." Either or both.
Then proceed to list at least (you can do more) 10 things in your life that are "right" that are "working".
When you list is complete. Review it starting with entry #1 and write down the VALUE or VALUES each thing you wrote down provides for you. let me give you some of my own as examples:
What's right...
1. Took the girls fishing.
2. Called PayPal to sort out the web payment process.
3. Posted in my TGN.org weblog.
4. Sent out eMails to all the Members about getting on the list.
5. Made long overdue communication with Mary about her book....
Okay, now in the review I identify what Values each of those entries had me experience & express, like so.
1. Fatherhood, fun, joy, giving.
2. Courage, resourcefulness, accomplishment, follow-through.
3. Accomplishment, productivity, creativity, contribution.
4. Accomplishment, productivity, TCB (Takin' Care of Business), organization.
5. Courage, accomplishment, completion, integrity.
Now, the first bit helps me "see" how much I do that is really right, that's working— and THAT's a very good thing. I'm not all that good at acknowledging myself, so it's a good habit for me to be working on. Builds energy for more & better, as well. (More, much, to say about that, and... that's all for now.)
The Values bit is the kicker. My experience as teacher & coach is most people are NOT hip to the importance of living & working their Values in everyday life & work. Your Values are the heart of the matter. They are a source of pure positive energy... Juice & Jazz. They fuel your Vision and new possibilities & ideas.
When you are living & working in ways that have you experience & express your Values, life is good, work is better and you are more fulfilled & satisfied. All of which equals feeling RRReally good! (About your self and life.) So, identifying your Values and keeping them "in your face," so to speak, works & serves you being more of your authentic self.
You'll see when you do this for a few days.
Probably more to say. Not sure what. So... Questions? Comments? All welcome.
Try it and let me know how it goes. I'm off to do mine now. (And yes, this post will by my first "What's right..." entry < smile >)
Thanks.
I appreciate you!
